52 Days of Prayer: Day 9

Capture Distractions

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5


Today try to locate an uncluttered place for your prayer and listening time as free from distractions as possible. Turn off the TV and radio. You may want to silence the ringer on the phone. Allow God to calm the voices that are clamoring for your mind’s attention. Acknowledge His presence. Turn distractions into a prayer. Apply the suggestions given in Simply Praying on pages 50-53 and ask God to give you creative ways to stay focused.

Turn Scripture into a Personal Prayer:   Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.Philippians 4:8

Almighty Father, teach me how to turn my thoughts to wholesome things today. I want to think about true, good, noble, lovely things. I desire that my thoughts be pure. May my thoughts be admirable and praiseworthy to You, my God, my Redeemer. Amen.1
